How RVs Retain Value Over Time

One of the biggest misconceptions about motorcoaches is that they depreciate rapidly. While it's true that all vehicles lose value over time, luxury motorhomes hold their value far better than most people realize — especially when compared to cars, trucks, and even boats.

The Depreciation Curve

A new luxury motorcoach will typically depreciate 15-20% in its first year, then slow to about 5-8% per year after that. By comparison, a new car loses roughly 20-30% in its first year alone. After 10 years, a well-maintained Class A diesel pusher can still retain 40-50% of its original MSRP.

Some premium brands hold value even better. Coaches from Newmar, Tiffin, and Prevost are known for their strong resale values, thanks to their build quality and loyal owner communities.

What Affects Resale Value?

  • Brand reputation: Premium brands with strong dealer networks retain value best. Berkshire, Newmar, and Tiffin consistently top resale charts.
  • Diesel vs. gas: Diesel pushers hold value significantly better than gas models due to engine longevity and towing capacity.
  • Maintenance records: A complete service history adds thousands to resale value. Keep every receipt and log every oil change.
  • Mileage: Unlike cars, motorcoach mileage is less of a factor. A 10-year-old coach with 50,000 miles is considered low-mileage.
  • Interior condition: Leather upholstery, updated electronics, and a clean interior make a massive difference at resale time.
  • Floorplan popularity: Some floorplans are more desirable than others. Rear bedroom layouts with opposing slides tend to sell fastest.

RVs vs. Other Recreational Investments

Consider this: a $50,000 boat might be worth $20,000 after 10 years. A $50,000 truck might be worth $15,000. But a $300,000 luxury motorcoach could still be worth $150,000-$180,000 a decade later — and you've lived in it, traveled in it, and made memories in it the entire time.

Unlike a vacation home with property taxes, HOA fees, and maintenance costs, a motorcoach gives you the flexibility to travel wherever you want with significantly lower carrying costs.

Tips to Maximize Your Coach's Value

  1. Store your coach covered or indoors when not in use
  2. Keep up with regular maintenance — especially the roof and seals
  3. Update the entertainment system and lighting every few years
  4. Address any water damage immediately
  5. Consider selling through a reputable consignment dealer like 24/7 Luxury Sales for maximum exposure
